Why Kenmore heater repair calls look the way they do
Heater calls in Kenmore come in three shapes: no heat with a code on the display, slow heat that never reaches the set point, and a breaker that trips the moment the heater is called. Each one has a different first test, and we run all of them before quoting.
Kenmore is Northshore Utility District territory — Seattle water at about 1.8 grains — so the fill is soft and needs calcium and alkalinity brought up before the heater runs for long. Aggressive soft water etches the element sheath and leaks current to ground, which is why a heater that trips the GFCI in Kenmore is usually a corroded element rather than a wiring fault.
Kenmore sits at the top of Lake Washington, with Inglewood and Arrowhead on the slopes and Uplake and Lakepointe near the water, and it is the far southeast corner of our route. We work Inglewood, Arrowhead, Moorlands, Uplake, Lakepointe and the rest of Kenmore (98028).

What Kenmore owners describe on the phone
Slow to heat, never reaches set point
An element that is partly failed, a heavy cover, or a tub losing heat to the wind. We measure amp draw on the heater to separate the three.
Breaker trips when the heater kicks on
A corroded element leaking to ground. Soft water etches the sheath over a few years; the fix is a new element and a correct calcium level in the fill.
Heater runs all day, water stays lukewarm
Look at the cover first. A waterlogged cover loses more heat than a good heater can put in; we weigh covers on every visit.
No heat, code on the display
OH, HL, dr, dry or a flashing temperature usually means the pack is protecting a heater that it thinks is running dry or overheating. Flow problems trigger most of these.
Kenmore note. Deck-mounted tubs with the equipment bay under the decking take longer; we book those as a half-day the first time.
How the visit runs
- A call half an hour before we arrive — about 20 minutes southeast via I-405 and Bothell Way
- Diagnosis with a meter, then one written price you approve
- Calcium and alkalinity checked for Northshore Utility District water
- Special-order parts arrive the next business day in most cases
- If the tub is not worth fixing, we say so
Scope, plainly: the spa and what lives inside its skirt. New circuits, supply plumbing and setting new tubs go to an electrician or a dealer.
